• A promethean board for use by teaching staff and the librarian
• 20 Helpsheets on various study and research skills e.g. Writing a Bibliography; Study Skills,; Writing a CV; Dewey Decimal Classification; Referencing; Writing a Personal statement. All available on year group teams pages and in the Library to pick up.

The Library aims are:

• To provide a quality support and enhancement for learning and teaching in a safe and welcoming environment
• To provide equal access to resources and facilities for all pupils and staff which enables self-development, learning and enjoyment of reading for pleasure
• To enable all students to achieve their full potential by providing them with a wide range of differentiated resources
• To support pupils in developing information literacy skills (IL) through one-to-one support, support materials, and class IL sessions
• To promote and encourage reading and literacy skills
• To contribute effectively to the ethos of the school and meet its aims.

Mrs Vaughan, School Librarian, is available to help you make use of the Library facilities and resources.

• Pupils can borrow 3 books for a period of 3 weeks and 1 DVD for 1 week
• Items can be renewed if required
• Reservations can be made for items which are out on loan
• Suggestions for new resources are welcome.

Article 17: “Every child has the right to reliable information from a variety of sources, and governments should encourage the media to provide information that children can understand. Governments must help protect children from materials that could harm them.” (UN Convention on the Rights of the Child)

• The Library works closely with the English Department supporting pupils’ reading via Library / Reading periods in S1/2, the Reading Award scheme and work towards Reading Schools accreditation
• All first year pupils receive a Library induction and are encouraged to make use of the Library, particularly at lunchtime
• An Information Literacy programme is available for all classes covering research skills, using the internet, writing bibliographies, referencing, evaluation, and notetaking.

A major focus for the Library Resource Centre is promoting reading for enjoyment.

Library periods activities and competition mark major national days such as:

• Book Week Scotland
• Roald Dahl Day
• Christmas and Halloween
• World Book Day
• Burns Night
• Reading Schools Week

Reading Ambassadors meet every Thursday at lunchtime to:

• Create DARN – newsletter reviewing books, interviews, puzzles and more
• Chat about reading
• Add recommendations on the Reading Ambassadors wall
• Take part in book related activities
• Help with working towards Reading Schools accreditation
