S3 Business Management
Business plays an important role in society. We all rely on businesses to create wealth, prosperity, jobs and choices. Therefore, it is essential for society to have effective businesses and business managers to sustain this role.
The Business Management course combines practical and theoretical aspects of business learning including developing pupils’ understanding of business concepts and awareness of the processes and procedures business use to ensure customers’ needs are met, through the use of real-life business contexts.
Pupils are involved in activities which are challenging, motivating and inspiring including a Marketing Dragons’ Den project where pupils can demonstrate their enterprising skills and adopt enterprising attributes.
Bringing Business Education to Life – Stock Market Challenge (SMC) Competition
The game involves managing a portfolio of investments in a time-pressured, competitive environment, which develops practical skills and brings business and investment principles to life in a real and immersive way. Pupils have to use risk assessment and risk management skills and apply and develop a strategy for managing risk. As the game unfolds, pupils will also use their team work, communication and strategic decision-making skills to overcome the many twists and turns as the prices of shares plummet and soar depending on the news stories for each day.
The SMC competition is an annual event and is a huge success for pupils and teachers alike. “It made me realise how important decision making is”, “it was an opportunity to solve problems and take risks...it is a stressful job!”
